Lovely cheap sweet sixteen favors…

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I needed some fresh ideas for my daughters sixteenth birthday party. My friend found quite a few party accessories and supplies online for her daughters celebration. So I decided to give it a try. I couldn’t believe all the nice table accessories and party favors that were available. I ran across some pretty neat ideas for her birthday celebration. There were cookie cutters I used to make cookies in the shape of the number 16 for her guests.

Since it was her birthday, I let her decide what she wanted and she decided to party at the roller rink and have her friends stay overnight. I immediately got on the phone and reserved tables at the local roller rink. I sent all of her girl friends special party invitations. It was a lot cheaper than I figured it would be. They had a great package deal for birthday parties, with pizza, hot dogs and refreshments. I got the house prepared for the party that was to continue after skating. I decorated the house with birthday accessories, laid out snacks and put my sweet 16 cookies, I made, on the tables.

When I was searching the web for birthday ideas, I ordered a few other things besides the cookie cutters. Since I was getting by so cheap with this party, I ordered extra gifts from the selection of sweet sixteen favors for her and her friends. I ordered some adorable pink photo albums for all the girls, and disposable cameras for them to take pictures of the party. Everyone got a camera before we went to the roller rink party, but no one got an album until later that evening. Even though they took a lot of photos at the roller rink, they all saved some picture taking for the sleepover.

One of the favors was a cosmetic bag that had each girls initial on the front button. The cosmetic bags were just the beginning, I also bought manicure sets and purse mirrors for each of the girls. I also sat out these adorable little favor boxes I bought online that were filled with candies for each guest. At home, her sweet sixteen idea and presents awaited, and we took care of that as soon as we got there. We picked up movies on the way home for the girls and I made sure they had plenty of snacks and drinks, so they were all set for the night. After they got tired of dancing to their favorite tunes, they decided to give make overs and manicures to each other. You could tell they were all having a fantastic time.

When the noise starting dwindling down they got out the bowls of popcorn and started watching their movies. I tried to stay out of their way as much as possible and just let them have a good time, but they asked me if I wanted to watch a movie with them. I thought that was so sweet of them to ask. They actually made it through the first two movies before they started nodded off, one by one. All that was left was my daughter and I, at least for a few minutes. But before she passed out, she thanked me for giving her such a great party.

When I got up in the morning the girls were already downstairs and had eaten, then straightened up everything from the party. It was really sweet of the girls to do that. They shared a couple of more hours together and then some of the girls had left for home. They told me they had a super time and they thought the sweet 16 favors were really cool. So, I guess that makes me a cool mom, hey?
